During my first recording session with Sam, I noticed how reserved and timid she was at exploring her voice. She has an amazing voice. Warm. Beautiful. Soulful. We spoke about how she saw herself as a vocalist and music in general. Later that night, I wrote this song for her, as a vehicle for her to explore her voice and natural talent.

My vocal inspirations on it were inspired more by my love for Tom Waits' music. It took me a week to recover from that gravelly grate rattling around in my voice box.
