about

The are all kinds of stressors and tiny deaths that we deal with each day. Some are more obvious than others.

lyrics

the freedom in my fist

the greatest goal in my life is
to sleep with my palms open
sometimes i wake up
my fists clenched so tight
they can not hold a prayer.

bath water slips through the ocean
unnoticed like civilizations slip
through their time on this planet
looking back, looking forward
clenched so tight in their ruts of earth
destiny eludes them.

the statue of liberty was made from pennies
david copperfeild croissants hailing
freedoms that never really existed
white drinking fountains, black drinking fountains
women propertyless, voiceless, shoeless.

but, the old gal made her way to new york
her fists clenched so tight
around her torch and book
perhaps she was inspiration for
countless book burnings
slipped through the ocean of time.

freedom is still cheap and easy
as opening a fist
passing water through the ocean
lying to a great number of people
clenching oneself within dreams
waking up isolated in neighborhoods.

freedom is in my cell phone
the book i’m always writing
the movie i’m still watching
the woman i try to love
the children i read to sleep.

traffic jams are always somebody’s fault
slipped through one inch at a time
they are never at the scene
fender to fender, looking back,
looking forward, hating now.

my grandmother is afraid to leave the house
tells me about parking lot car jackings,
a.t.m. line jackings, gas station shootings,
grocery bag stealings, apartment break ins;
she lives in washington, dc.

Cherokee Starlight Albuquerque, New Mexico

Music is! It's the language of my heart, my mind, and Spirit. It is the language of our Earth, the stars; it is life. Every vibration that moves within us, around us, and through us, can be heard, felt, and played. I play with the sounds of Folk, Rock, Punk, Funk, Hip Hop, Spoken Word, and Jazz to explore the journey of this odd flesh suitcase traveling down this organic ghetto. ... more
