I wrote this song for my grandmother. Her passing in December 2018, changed the focus and direction of my recording project. The CD of music I was working on got shelved, and in its place, this body of music emerged.

Though her nickname was "Joe", my cousin Lori told me about how Grandma would tell the nurses at the hospital that her name was Suzy Q, every time they would ask her what her name was when they were checking up on her. She was a willful woman, and it thrills me to no end to know that she kept her fire burning to the last.

She didn't have the easiest life. There were some really dark and troubled times that she had lived through. I know much of it kept her up at night and caused her anxiety. But she lived through it, you know. She survived it.

I spent a lot of time with her growing up. She called me "Sweet Pea" until I was too old for the endearing nickname. For much of my life she felt more like a best friend, than a grandmother. And she was an amazing grandma!

She's affected me in more positive ways than I can recall. I am still learning from her life and her love. She never judged me. She accepted me for who I was. So, it is with this heart of love and acceptance that I entered into this new body of music, allowing the songs to grow organically, until this collection was complete.
